New Duck Race Regulations Announced

New F1 Racing Duck - smaller and more stable

This year’s duck race in Carding Mill Valley on Saturday 29th May will be the first held under strict new FIDR regulations. The Federation Internationale de DuckRacing has been under pressure since the Beecher’s Brook disaster of 2008 (see our picture above right) to introduce regulations that will ensure racing ducks stay upright in most conditions; and following the scandal last year, when two ducks were disqualified for taking banned substances, it was inevitable that changes would occur in the specification for Formula One Ducks.

Most Ducks have now arrived in Stretton for a month’s acclimatisation, and some have already been seen in training.  The Carding Mill course is characterised by terrifying waterfalls, rapids and dangerous rocks – and until the day itself no-one knows how fast the course will be.

The new ducks will be slightly smaller, so it looks likely that more ducks will be able to take part in each race – and for the first time you will also be able to buy your own duck to race and take home afterwards. Entries will remain at 50p per race.

See you on Saturday 29th May! First Race 11.00am

Hmmm, shallow water exercises looks a lot like dry land training (ie complete lack of water). Looking forward to an exciting race day. Will do traditional rain dance a few days before just to ensure a fast course!

Hi please could you mention that the official opening for the Brooksbury Nature Play – off Churchill road is at 10 am – and encourage people to make their way on foot up to the fabulous Duck races xx
    Many thanks

Duck Racing Day is always a fantastic day out – even better than a day at Epsom races. The ducks are in training, and I hear the National Trust will hold the 50 Top Tips draw on Duck Day for a chance to win one of five super energy monitors they are providing. If you haven’t yet filled in one of their Top Tips cards you can get one from The Chalet Tea Rooms or Acorn Cafe.
    See you at the races.
