Strettonians who completed the Energy Savings Trust’s questionnaire early enough are now receiving free energy monitors – and we’re installing them!

If you completed a questionnaire you might get a call with the news that you’ve won a free energy Monitor, and then we’ll come round and install it for you – it takes no more than fifteen minutes, and there really is no catch – it’s free and we won’t try to sell you anything or try to get you to vote for us (although it is important that you vote, of course).

Save Money

Then you can start monitoring your energy usage- and working out how you can reduce your energy bills.  We warn you – it can be addictive! People go around the house turning off lights, carefully measuring cups into kettles turning down thermostats and wearing extra jumpers.  All good stuff, and if you’d like a little more help from humans (rather than the Energy Savings Trust’s computer generated report – which is sometimes a little difficult to understand) ask us to come and give you a free Home Energy Check. Ring us on the phone number above or email us. We just love saving money for people so we’ll be round as quick as we can.

This is what I like about this site. Up to the minute items about what’s happening in the community. I wonder if there will be comments about the outcome of the election – non partisan of course? What is important is that we all keep up the pressure on politicians not to water down commitments to continue to be world leaders in cutting carbon emissions. The Labour Government set some bold targets but sadly climate change and the need to save energy did not feature strongly in all the hype leading up to the election!
The Strettons are quietly leading the way towards real carbon cutting. Keep up the good work.

Hello – I would just like to make a comment about economical driving and your advice given to drive slower. I am not a fast driver myself and I usually drive smoothly, slowing down rather than braking, but I sometimes come across drivers driving too slowely and I wonder if they are missunderstanding the advice that driving more slowely saves energy. Slow driving in itself is not more environmentally friendly. It all depends what gear you are in.

Most cars these days have five gears and, for my car, that means I am driving most economically at speeds above about 40mph on level road because then I can get into top gear. But even then, at speeds just above 40 my car is using more fuel per mile than it would do at a higher speed such as 50mph. So the advice to drive slowly really needs to be more specific and I sometimes wonder if the slow drivers I come across that force me to change down to 4th gear are thinking that they are driving more economically, were as in fact they are actually causing a queue of cars to churn out more CO2 per mile than if they were driving faster.

In other words it is actually the extremes that cause more CO2 emissions. The extremes of speed and the extremes of slowness.

Anyway, thank you for all your efforts otherwise.
