Saturday’s the Day to Explore Low Carbon Technology in Stretton

The Carding Mill Valley Cafe - Low Carbon technology at the National Trust

This Saturday (July 9th) you can learn all about renewable technologies and visit up to 10 homes in the Stretton Area to ask them all about their own low carbon experience. Acton Scott Hall and the National Trust chalet in Carding Mill Valley are just two of the well-known venues for low carbon technology, but there are another 8 ordinary and not-so-ordinary homes who have been there, got the T-shirt and can tell you how it’s been for them.

Start at the Parish Centre

There's something new under the sun

St Laurence’s Parish Centre, Church Stretton – itself now powered by PV panels on the roof – is the venue for the Renewable Technologies exhibition, with a number of expert installers on hand to give advice between 10 am and 3 pm. Admission is free.

At the exhibition you can buy a £2.50 ticket entitling you to visit any or all of the ten low carbon homes and buildings which will be open in the Stretton area between 10 am and 5 pm. The homes cover a wide range of technologies such as solar hot water, PV panels, biomass heating, rainwater recycling and a wind turbine.

Open Homes

Acton Scott Hall has solar water heating, photovoltaic panels and a wood chip burner

There is nothing more useful than talking to homeowners who have themselves tried out ideas and are happy to share their knowledge, their good (and bad!) experiences and who can help your own plans take shape.

Programmes with maps and full details will be available in St Laurence’s Parish Centre from 9.30 am onwards.

Bike or Community Bus

Leave your car behind and hop on your bike (plenty for hire at Plush Hill Cycles, including electric bikes) or make use of the community bus to reach the more distant homes. The bus will leave from the parish centre at 10 am and 2 pm and travel to Acton Scott and Little Stretton in the morning and Caradoc and All Stretton in the afternoon. There will be refreshments and lunch available in the parish centre.

A great day to provide ideas, inspiration and share experiences – all hosted by Stretton Climate Care.
