Photo Competition Winners

Photo Competition Winners

Congratulations to our five Geoff Hamby Memorial Photo competition winners:  Laura Hayes and Dominic Gallagher in the under 16s category, Danny Beath and Val Morris in the over 16s, and Howard Jones, who won the public vote.  Those of us who know little about photography but know what we like came away educated and informed by Tony Brown and Isabel Carter, the very authoritative judges, who explained what it was that made a really good picture; and we should all be able to take better pictures as a result.

The photos were mixed at first so no-one knew whether a picture was an under or over 16 entry, and it just goes to show that talent is not always related to age and experience.  Thanks to all who took part, and here are the winning entries:

'Poppy Sky' by Danny Beath - Winner, Over 16s

This shows a poppy field on an organic field on Pim Hill farm.  The lack of chemicals on this farm allows weeds like this to thrive, along with many other rare weeds and invertebrates; it is a green way of farming.

'Grow your own' by Laura Hayes - Winner, Under 16s
'Walk More' by Howard Jones - Winner, public vote
'Serendipity' by Val Morris - 2nd place, over 16s

Second Place winners:

Making a patchwork bedspread with leftover curtain fabric and toning plain material from Scrappies.

‘This is Robbie, my bin bot – if we all recycle we can
help to keep Shropshire green’ – Dominic Gallagher

'Robbie' by Dominic Gallagher - 2nd prize, U 16s
