Church Stretton’s Annual Duck race is on Saturday May 5th in Carding Mill Valley from 11.00am to 4.00pm. We were going to call them the Duck Olympics but its against the law (honest!) so please note they are NOT the Duck Olympics, they are just the biggest, best, most exciting, most fun duck races ever.
And despite the fact that it’s NOT the Olympics the field has been widened to allow foreign competitors and already entries are flooding in. As usual, the National Trust course starts just outside the Carding Mill Valley pavilion and ends…further downstream; and as usual, you can inspect the course from 10.30am onwards.

For the past four years we have had unseasonal weather – yes the climate is definately changing with greater variations in weather patterns. We now seem to be back to the more traditional April Showers and for once there should be plenty of water in the stream on 5th May. Over the past few years we have had shortened courses, a necessary army of duck prodders and even considered cancelling the greatest duck racing event in the country through lack of water.
A trip to Carding Mill Valley during the next ten days and you may catch a glimps of some of the ducks in training.
Excellent! Loving the ducks from other countries. Hope it goes well, rain all night for the river and sun all day for the people attending!
Noticed some athletic looking ducks undergoing additional training in the swimming pool this morning. Is this allowed?
