CLIMATE CHANGE – EVIDENCE AND DENIAL is the title of Mark Lynas’s talk on Friday 7th March at 7.30 at Church Stretton Comp. Author of ‘High Tide’, ‘Six Degrees’ and his latest ‘The God Species’, Mark is an internationally renowned environmental campaigner, author and broadcaster. He was Adviser to the Maldives government during the Ill-fated Copenhagen negotiations, famously reminding its president that if he was agreeing to a target 2 degree temperature increase he was agreeing to flood his whole country. Telling it straight has proved controversial as he has changed his mind over GM crops and Nuclear power in recent years, so in welcoming him back we look forward to some lively debate.
On Friday he will explore the question of why political ideology continually trumps scientific evidence on some of the key issues facing us today, and asks how might this affect the future of the planet and its people. But he’ll also talk about those controversial u-turns in his thinking. And who knows, he might even have some views on fracking that will be of interest to our North Shropshire friends!
Assuming you’re not prevented from getting there by floods, we suggest you get there early as it’s bound to be packed. This is one not to be missed.
