We’re a charity, and we don’t sell anything, so when we say Stretton Climate Care offer a FREE Home Energy Audit to all homes within an approximate 6 mile radius of Church Stretton, that’s exactly what it means. This audit will look at your use of energy for heating and lighting, household appliances and travel.  From the information you provide, your home energy visitor will calculate your carbon footprint and produce a report identifying ways in which you can save energy and thus reduce your energy bills.

We have carried out hundreds of these surveys – we’ve now covered 17% of the Church Stretton area.  A random selection of revisits after about one year are showing our clients are on average reducing their carbon emissions by approximately 13%. This also means they have reduced their energy consumption – and their energy bills.

Some people are naturally cautious about letting strangers into their home, even when those people are charity volunteers giving a genuinely free service. We appreciate that, so if you like we can do it at a distance by sending you the form our volunteers fill out and letting you do it yourself. We can then enter your data completely anonymously into the government’s Carbon Calculator and send you the results (the calculator can’t save the results, so we’ll print them off and send you the only copy).  We won’t follow up or pester you again if you don’t want us to, and we won’t pass judgement, either.

We’re not interested in how much you are spending or which energy company you are with. Having looked at your energy audit report, if you’re minded to invest in energy efficient technology we can put you in touch with approved contractors that we have vetted and know have given good service in the past; and if you use one of them, we’ll ask you how it went. From the point of view of the contractors, people who have been referred through us are seriously considering their household energy use and are not just vaguely window shopping, so they don’t waste their time giving advice, estimates etc. From the point of view of the householders, they know they are dealing with a reputable company whose work we monitor; and we can often put people in touch with others who have used them already.

This provides both customer and supplier with greater security, which is why, if you do decide to use one of our approved contractors, they will pay us a modest commission. This helps us to continue our work, but we don’t depend on it and we won’t pressurise anyone to use one of our approved contractors just to get the commission.

This service really is FREE. What’s in it for us? Well, the more people reduce their individual carbon usage, the better the chances of keeping our planet habitable for humans in the next century. Every little helps!
