With the U.S.A. emitting 14% of world carbon emissions, this is BAD news but already the American business community has expressed their disgust at this decision. Although as individuals our carbon cutting contribution is minuscule this is even more reason for us all to live simply so other might simply live. Talk to family and friends, get them on board, lead the way and become a carbon cutting champion.

Trump has shot himself in the foot on this. He does not realize that the economics goes with renewables - something that US states and cities, as well as business and entrepreneurs understand only too well. As he divorces himself from reality (if he ever had much contact), other countries will take the lead. Indeed, his wish to retreat to the Age of Stupid will most likely encourage others to do the opposite and go even more strongly for a carbon-free future. This is just the last trump of the dinosaurs heading for extinction. We can hope for better, and work to make it come true.

I think James Thornton's reassurance on BBC just before he left to come to talk to us was excellent. First, the USA is locked into nothing - the deal was voluntary. It's just possible that the Donald will come up with some other voluntary arrangements that he will sell as renegotiated, thus keeping his pre election promise whilst doing nothing much. Second, the withdrawal process will take four years, so there will most likely be a different President who can choose to stay in - and if the Trumpet gets re-elected we might as well give up any way. Third, the big states across America are going for the future not the past, and investing in renewables not revertibles (just made that word up!). So it doesn't matter what he says.
Let's hope this optimism is justified!
