Taking back control doesn’t always mean you have to go for expensive high tech solutions;  using a greenhouse or polytunnel can give you masses of British fruit and veg for longer – and there’s simply no comparison between your own freshly picked produce and the stuff you (a) have to buy and (b) eat when it’s not so fresh and has lost much of its nutritional value.  Polythene is, of course, an oil-based product.  But at the moment we burn 75% of the oil we produce (in cars, lorries, planes, boats and heating systems).  The less we burn, the more there is to use on sensibly helpful products like plastics; and it’s recyclable, too.
