Seven Reasons for Installing Wind Turbines

Seven Reasons for Installing Wind Turbines

1. They’re easy to install – they have a very small footprint compared with other power stations…

2. They have a rapid CO2 payback  – the CO2 embodied in their manufacture and erection is recovered within 3 to 6 months…

3. The fuel is free!..

4. They are long-lasting – they work for 25 years and more…

5. At the end of their life, it’s easy to decommission them (you just take them down)…

6. They are more attractive than smoke-stacks or pylons…

7. They are cleaner and less wasteful than power stations or incinerators…

Wind farms have their drawbacks, not least the fact that wind is unreliable.  They also won’t meet all our energy needs on their own.  But neither will hydro, or solar PV, or any other form of renewable energy on their own.  Together, however, they will make a big dent in our reliance on fossil fuels – and fossil fuels are going to do away with us all if we don’t give them up.  The technical difficulties are not insurmountable; they just need a little investment and a bit of government backbone to inspire confidence.  And, of course, at the other end of the supply chain, we are all going to have to get our demand for energy down in one way or another.  Sorry folks, that’s just the way it is…
