There is absolutely no point of installing a heat pump (even if you could afford one) unless your home is very well insulated - at least to Energy Performance Certificate level C. What is missing from the Governments welcome announcements are plans to improve the insulation standards of hundreds of thousands of our older homes,
The promised £5,000 grant may almost cover the cost of the heat pump but what about the installation cost? It often takes five or more days to install an ASHP and if replacing a combi gas boiler you will also need a hot tank. Another four of five thousand pounds!!
