*The October price cap will be announced by Ofgem on Friday 26 August, and will set the price of energy bills for most people – those on price-capped standard tariffs from 1 October to 31 December 2022. Experts warn it could increase to as much as £3,600. In May Ofgem predicted the price cap would be £2,800 annually (£232 monthly) for a household with medium energy consumption – defined as using 12,000 kWh of gas and 2,900 kWh of electricity per year. Currently it is £1971 annually – £164.25 a month.

From 1st October the average energy bill will be set at £3549. Electricity will cost 52p per kWh, standing charge 46p per day and Gas will be charged at 15p per kWh with the standing charge set at 28p per day. This is a staggering increase of 80%.
Unless there is Government intervention hundreds of thousands of families will be plunged into Fuel Poverty unable to heat and eat this winter.
For businesses their energy costs are set to rise in some cases as much as 300% as they are not subject to a price cap.
There will be a new domestic price cap to fix prices from next February.
Gas prices around the world are very volatile and because gas is used to generate electricity this causes both gas and electricity prices to rise.
